New Route 1 BB&T Set to Open in October

Construction on new building is going according to plan.

Route 1 residents will have a new, larger BB&T to serve the area beginning in early October.

Construction on the new building, located at 6618 Richmond Highway, began in February, said Branch Manager Ronald Bacarreza. That entailed tearing down the old building, which was more than 30 years old, and moving operations into a mobile unit on the same site.

The new building, which will be significantly larger than the old one, is set to be completed by the last week of September, and bank officials are planning an open date of Tuesday, Oct. 8.

The new construction has not faced any significant delays, Bacarreza said. “It’s pretty much going according to plan,” he said.

The mobile unit has space for about six tellers. The new building will accommodate five or six walk-up tellers and six or seven teller windows, Bacarreza said.
