New Bistro Coming to Hollin Hall Shopping Center

Caroline Ross, local resident and chef, hopes to open restaurant by November.

A new bistro is slated to take the place of the old Village Wharf restaurant in the Hollin Hall Shopping Center by November.

Caroline Ross, a chef and local resident, told Patch the new restaurant, River Bend Bistro, will seat 74 and include a full bar. She is currently waiting on a final loan to be processed and then will then begin renovations, which should last a few months.

“I grew up here,” Ross said. “I lived in the area most of my life, and one night I came home and saw the Wharf had been closed, and I’ve been working on it ever since.”

River Bend Bistro will offer casual fine dining, including sandwiches for lunch and full entrees for dinner. Ross plans to offer local foods including crab cakes and rockfish.

The restaurant will have a full bar with spirits, wine and beer. The focus will be on wine, as Ross spent the last nine years managing Rick’s Wine and Gourmet in the city of Alexandria.

Ross is a chef by training and has cooked for area restaurants for more than 20 years. She is the former executive chef at La Bergerie in Old Town, Cafe Milano in Georgetown and Stella’s on Duke Street in Alexandria.

Sounds great! I hope she has a good recipe for crab soup too, if not, I'll have to share mine. :)

This is fantastic for the neighborhood! I also loved the chipotle chicken from Stella's - it would be so great to be able to get it again--and in my own neighborhood!

As a childhood neighbor and hide n seek player with Caroline, I think I'll make a drive up and support her new restaurant.. I'll be coming from Florida though, not down the road.. : )

I hope this will also be "Family Friendly". Seats for 74 will be hard to fill night after night if they do not cater to those with kids for the repetitive business that will be essential for their success.

Great news for our community! Hope it is family friendly as they will certainly get a lot of business from our family!

Echoing Kathleen, what is the delay? Why aren't the local media, including the Fort Hunt Patch covering the delay regarding the opening of the new restaurant? No construction activity within the past couple of months.
