National Pit Bull Awareness Day
Every week members of the Alexandria Animal League will introduce us to adoptable pets
In this week's Patch Pets, Suzanne D'Alonzo introduces us to Tony, a pit bull mix. Tony is here to tell us about National Pitbull Awareness Day—Saturday, Oct. 22.
Come by the shelter to learn more about this often misunderstood breed.
If you're interested in adopting any of these pets, call the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria at (703) 838-4775 or stop by at 4101 Eisenhower Avenue.

My daughter and I love to visit and volunteer at the shelter and I can vouch for the pit bulls, including Tony. They are sweet , gentle dogs with a bad rep. It used to be Rottweilers, then Doberman& German Shepherds .. I've met meaner Chihuahuas!

Pits are great, loyal dogs who are often abused by bad "owners" and unfairly portrayed by the media – just like Dobermans, Rottweilers, and German Shepherds before them. Because of this stigma, they’re the least likely to be adopted from shelters and rescues. Thanks for highlighting Pit Bull awareness day and giving some positive press to these sweet pups!
