UPDATE: Mount Vernon District Leads in Rapes, Auto Thefts, Robberies in 2010
Area saw more crime in these crime categories than other Fairfax County police districts.
UPDATE: Thanks to one of our eagle-eyed readers, we are adding 2009 statistics to add more perspective to the story. When looking at the statistics, Mount Vernon saw an increase in aggravated assaults from 2009 to 2010 and a decrease in rapes from 2009 to 2010, from 22 to 14.
Compared to 2009, Mount Vernon last year saw a decrease in:
Rape: From 22 to 14
Larceny: 2,064 to 1,888
Motor vehicle theft: 223 to 196
Compared to 2009, Mount Vernon last year saw an increase in:
Murder: From 1 to 2
Robberies: 92 to 98
Aggravated Assault: 56 to 91
The Mount Vernon District ranked highest among Fairfax County police districts in three categories of crime last year: rape, motor vehicle thefts and robberies, according to a county annual report released recently.
The statistics show that, in 2010 in the Mount Vernon District, there were:
- 14 rapes
- 196 auto thefts
- 98 robberies
Statistics for 2009 for Mount Vernon were not available.
In those three categories, rapes overall were down across the county from the previous year, from 105 to 74. Auto thefts were also down overall, from 1,096 in 2009 to 963. Robberies were up across Fairfax County from 2009 to 2010, from 386 to 394.
In other crime categories, Mount Vernon saw the same or fewer than other Fairfax County districts in 2010:
