I go through this intersection almost every day. I constantly see people racing for long standing yellow lights going almost 70 miles an hour. Fairfax Police should pay more attention to this intersection during rush hours, especially in the morning hours.

93 year old woman in minivan ran a red light, hitting motorcyclist.

How is the motorcyclist? How can we help him and his family????

SPEED! Make it across that light before it changes and you have to wait another 3 minutes! How important is it to get through that intersection at this instant and not the next light? I pray for both people, for the Major and for the elderly woman. Telegraph and US1 have ALWAYS been a problem spot! May they live to see active life once more.

Margie...do you personally know this woman?? My guess is probably not...this is why they are called accidents. So why don't people stop and think about that. There are no further details on how it happened so before you go accusing people why don't you wait to hear the facts. All that matters is that they both are ok and make a full recovery.

There are two left turn lanes on that corner. Next to those is one through lane and then three lanes to turn right, two of them turn right only on the light. From what I see in the first picture is that the bike was destroyed and the car was damaged on the right side to the complete destruction of that side. That leads me to believe the bike was darting ahead to turn left and the car was in the through lane. Common speed would make that sort of damage. (I think) Both were moving and the bike was hit by a car whose driver did not see and respond fast enough to not hit the bike. The police will never give us an answer.

No they probably won't...the only obligation they have is to figure out the facts (by examining the actual scene..not pictures) and giving an answer the people who are directly affected by this ie the families and the two involved. So why don't we let them handle it...

The single most common accident involving motorcycles is a car turning left, from the opposite direction, in front of them. I hope the rider recovers. If you drive a car, the least you can do for the rest of us is to pay full time and attention while you wield your deadly weapon.

All witnesses have said the minivan driver turned left on red.

All I hear is people making ASSUMPTIONS. As adults we all know what happens when we ASSUME things. Is rt 1 a dangerously fast moving highway with impatient drivers, yes. Should all drivers (motorcyclist included) pay attention when we "wield a deadly weapon" in the form of a motorvehicle, absolutely. Is there a law that people over a certain age can not be on the road, negative. Are there plenty of people that are younger than "93" with "obvious judgement problems", we all know a few. Witness accounts of a traumatic incident have been proven to be highly unreliable. So please let the accident investigators do their job. Let both victims of this ACCIDENT recover. And unless you are directly involved, there is nothing more that you really need to know to satisfy your own curiosity. 

From what I understand, they took him into surgery to release pressure on his brain. He is medically sedated, but can be awakened to respond with his hands. That's all I know. Very sad.

Thank you for the update. I've been searching everywhere for an update on his condition. I even heard he passed away. I'm glad to hear that he's sill with us and I pray for his full recovery.

I am a close friend of his wife, and I'll tell you he is an extremely conscientious rider. He was NOT at fault as detectives have confirmed.

I'm glad there are concerned human beings on this forum in addition to the negative people who acting like judge & jury. A poor man is critically injured. Pray for him. Pray for his family. Another woman (her age is irrelevent) was injured. Pray for her. Pray for her family. It was an accident. The police and lawyers will take on the responsibility of assigning blame for insurance and $ purposes. That has ZERO to do with the life that hangs in the balance. Imagine the fear of crashing in a vehicle with no doors or frame to protect you. Imagine the fear and worry for his family and for him as he goes through this nightmare. Prognosis is good. Still in ICU.

My husband is still in Trauma ICU. He has severe brain trauma and has a long long road to recovery. He is only 35 years old and has 3 small children. He is a major in the army and served 3 tours to Iraq. He was hit by a 91 yr old women who turned left on red. These are the facts. It's been ten days and he is still on a breathing machine and has not opened his eyes. Please people keep us all in your thoughts and prayers!

Keep the faith. I just went through a very similar MC accident with my father in Richmond. After 21 days in STICU at MCV on breathing machines, he came through. He required in patient rehab, etc but is doing well. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Prayers to him and his family. Thoughts and prayers with them daily. Serious consideration for drivers at a certain age needs to be looked at with additional tests for license renewals at a certain age.

OK it's me, the motorcyclist. I am finally home and spending time with my family. It hasn't been easy and has been very hard, especially for my wife. I am still suffering from my TBI and my left knee is pretty much gone (all but one ligament torn) as stated earlier, we all on here need to quit making assumptions. I don't remember the accident or anything months after. What I do know is that I've always been a conscienctious motorcyclist and the other driver was found guilty in court for the incident. There is so much that I want to say but I will keep them to myself. Just know that my life and my families life has been forever changed.

MAJ Kendall. I had the opportunity to be the first medical responder but I did not witness the accident. You were unconscious and not responding to painful stimuli. Pupils were approximately 3mm and equal. In addition you were having difficulty breathing with stridor. No gross bleeding observed at the scene. I secured the Aid Bag from the trunk of my car and performed basic measures while my wife waited. I apologize for cutting your clothes.
Later to learned that we were peers at ILE. I was on group 29.
Just want to said, I am glad you are back with your family.
