Fort Hunt ‘Mom-Owned’ Business Ranks Nationally

Amy Fazackerley honored.

Fort Hunt resident Amy Fazackerley, who created the portable Lay-n-Go organizational bag along with her husband, Adam, has ranked nationally in StartupNation.com’s 2012 Leading Moms in Business competition.

Other ranked Virginia firms included Curtians Up! of Leesburg, Milkin’ Cookies of Roanoke and TreatmentDiaries.com, a health-based social media company with users in 132 countries.

More than 350,000 votes were cast in support of the 2012 contestants, reflecting strong interest and supportiveness for moms building businesses at the same time they tend to their families.

“There’s been a sea change among moms as they’ve come to realize that adding entrepreneurship to their lives brings exhilaration and immense gratification, not to mention supplemental — sometimes primary — income to their families in these dicey economic times,” said Rich Sloan, chief startup-ologist and co-founder of StartupNation.

The full results of the 2012 Leading Moms in Business ranking are available on StartupNation’s website.

Amy Fazackerley, a mom of three young boys, created the Lay-n-Go in search for a product that would easily store her sons’ Legos. The result was the Lay-n-Go, a nylon bag holds toys and other small objects and can also be spread flat on the ground as a play surface. When playtime’s over, a drawstring neatly turns the mat into a bag with a shoulder strap for easy transport.
