Coaches' Corner: West Potomac Versus Annandale

This week, the Wolverines will take on the Atoms.

The West Potomac Wolverines are scheduled to go head-to-head with the Annandale Atoms Friday, Sept. 28. at 7:30 p.m. at Annandale High School, located at 4700 Medford Drive.

West Potomac head coach Jeremiah Davis referred to Annandale as a "tough, scrappy team." Davis said Annandale has a great quarterback combination in Nolan Gilbert and Steve Schwartz.

"This year, their offense has been more productive and able to capitalize on opponents' mistakes which makes them more of a challenge," Davis said in a recent email. "Defensively safety Jack Johnson has been a thorn in West Potomac’s side for four years and upfront Brian Jefferson will have to be accounted for."

In preparation for this week's game, Davis said the Wolverines changed it up a bit in practice by trying to correct their penalties and mistakes that tooke them out of the game last week against Lake Braddock.

"We feel that if we can correct those mistakes that we give ourselves a great chance at winning," said Davis. "We have some guys at new positions this week and as usual our special teams play will be vital to our success."

Annandale head coach Michael Scott was unable to be reached before the publishing of this column.
