Coaches' Corner: West Potomac v. T.C. Williams
West Potomac High School will go head-to-head with T.C. Williams High School Friday night.
This week, the West Potomac Wolverines will take on the T.C. Williams Titans Friday at 7:30 p.m. at West Potomac High School at 6500 Quander Road.
Schools were closed Monday and Tuesday because of Hurricane Sandy, but the two teams were back on the practice field Wednesday and Thursday in preparation for this week's game.
Wolverines Head Coach Jeremiah Davis said after making many mistakes during last week's game against West Springfield, they have been working on holding on to the ball and making better decisions on the field.
"We have focused on protecting the ball and making good decisions when passing the ball," said Davis in a recent email. "T.C. Williams is a very athletic and large team that can pass and run equally as effective."
Davis said the team also needs to cover down the field and ensure all tackles throughout the game.
The Titans returned to the practice field Wednesday to focus on execution and confidence on the field.
"They are a very good offensive team running the ball. They have an outstanding back who is capable of breaking a long run from anywhere on the field," said Head Coach Dennis Randolph in a recent email. "Defensively, they are big and strong up front and their linebackers and secondary is very quick. We will need great execution and confidence in our offense to put points on the board."
Randolph said defensively, the Titans are very quick and aggressive. With linebacker Ed Kargbo and defensive tackle Jeremiah Clarke leading the defense in tackles in sacks, the Titans plan to go hard against the Wolverines for a win.
This game will be the last of the regular season, and Davis said he's sure both teams want to take home a win to end the season.
