Belle View Safeway Re-Opens Friday

The renovated store will have a Starbucks.

The Belle View Safeway will re-open on Friday morning.

The store will reopen after being closed for the past six months for renovations, including an expansion of the store.

This is the second expansion that the store has undergone since Safeway acquired the store from another grocer in August 1984 as a 28,000 square foot facility, according to a news release from Safeway. The previous expansion occurred in 1997, enlarging the interior to 39,888 square feet.

The newly renovated store will feature an expanded beer and wine department; full-service deli, meat, seafood and floral departments; from scratch bakery; an expanded produce section featuring approximately 150 varieties of organic items and a Starbucks coffee bar.

The store will re-open at 8 a.m. on Friday.

I'll be there in exactly 23 hours and 35 minutes. Hope to see all the old staff there too.

I hope "expanded beer" department means more variety and not fifty more feet of Budweiser.

The Stalag Safeway could use a little sprucing up too. :)

It's cramped, dingy, depressing and lacks variety. Why, in gawd's name??

The store on Rt 1 has a pretty good beer selection. I assume this will be a similar floor plan.

Now if we could only get them to finish up the elusive "Bread and Water Company" space that has been under renovation for almost two years. (Or have they finally admitted that's never going to open?)

Hopefully the produce isn't gross and rotting like the Engleside Safeway...

I know!! Isn't it disgusting? Perhaps it's b/c there's a different manager there every day. Wanted to make a kale salad, no kale. Since when is a big grocery store out of kale. Grrrrrrr.

The new store is open, so what. It's personnel is the same ole union dummies without a clue. The aisles are cramped worse than the old ones. It is already junked up. I live behind the store in New Alexandria and the noise is always there at the wee hours in the morning. We've contacted Safeway and the center owners to no avail. This Safeway is a great model of the screw you community attitude taken on by liberal union and business leaders ! !!!
