Huntington Metro Station Makes List of Stations with Most Crime
WMATA released the security report Monday.
The Huntington metro station made the top ten list of stations with the most crime in Virginia, according to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority 2012 security report.
Most of the crime increase on the Metro system wide from 2011 to 2012 is attributable to a 30 percent increase in snatches of small electronic devices and pickpockets, according to WMATA.
There were 671 pick-pocketing incidents and electronic “snatchings” on the Metro system overall in 2012, up from 520 incidents in 2011.
Metro Transit Police Chief Michael Taborn will discuss the report Thursday during his security report to the Metro Board Safety and Security Committee. The report was released to the public Monday.

If the GreaterAlexandriaPatch claims to cover "news, sports, business, crime, events, announcements and businesses in the Fort Hunt, Huntington, Belle Haven, Groveton, Belle View and Hybla Valley area and surrounding Mount Vernon, Alexandria and Fairfax County in Virginia" then why would the Huntington Station be the lead station named in this story when the other relevant stations to the areas covered like Franconia, King Street and Braddock Road stations exceed it in crimes reported and arrests?

jetodd24, Thanks for reading Patch! We named the Huntington station in the headline because that is the metro station that our readers in this area likely use the most.

This headline is so misleading. No Virginia rail station is in the top ten for the entire Metro system. Therefore, all Virginia stations are out of the top ten. Then, there are only 14 reported crimes over 12 months at Huntington. What sort of crimes are we talking about? Murder? Arson? or something much smaller like a car break-in or ipad snatching? Please, don't make up a crime scare headline like this. Please, do provide more context so that the ridership know how to protect themselves.

Based on your headline - I wonder if the Old Town Patch has this headline: "King Street Metro a cesspool of crime!."
