More Than 80 Fairfax County Intersections Still Without Traffic Signals

Drivers are reminded to obey four-way stop rules; more than 80 intersections remain dark as of Monday morning.

More than 80 intersections in Fairfax County remain without working traffic lights, according to county staff.  Drivers are reminded to obey four-way stop rules at intersections without power:

  • Treat each traffic light as a four-way stop, with the driver on the right having the right-of-way.
  • Proceed with caution only when traffic permits.
  • Enter intersections only when it is safe to do so, using turn signals to let other motorists know your intentions.
  • Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.
  • Watch out for and obey police officers directing traffic within intersections.

Check for updates on the Fairfax County Emergency Information blog.

Fairfax County provided this sampling of the major intersections without working traffic lights as of Monday morning:

  • Route 123/International Drive
  • Route 7/Beulah
  • Route 50/Gallows Road

Is there a Reston-centric list of traffic light outages? Too bad that Reston District Police Station's website is so out of date.

Jill reports the light at Roberts Road and Braddock Road is working as of Monday morning, but Roberts Road between Braddock and Shenandoah River Lane is still closed. I went there yesterday -- there is a tree down, tangled in power lines, and the top of a power pole has sheared from its base and is hanging over the roadway. I passed the Beaulah/Telegraph intersection around 5:30PM and that tiny little red generator which engined the traffic light is the MVP of the day. This morning when I drive by, the lights were still out and I was concerned my PM commute would be destroyed with that light out. But when I arrived to it around 5:30PM finding it on and operated by that tony generator, I was so relieved.
