West Potomac High will present William Shakespeare’s Richard III on January 19 and 20 at 7 p.m. and on January 21 at 1 and 7 p.m. This is the second consecutive year that the school has presented a performance as a unique collaboration between the English department, which offers a Shakespeare studies elective, and the Theater Arts program. The production will feature a number of Shakespeare’s original staging conditions in order to put the play in the original context for which it was written. Students are working on creating the effects of universal lighting and audience contacts, elements written into the play. Richard III is a student-centered production; all set, lighting, and costume elements have been designed and created by students in the school’s Technical Theater course.
