The West Potomac Varsity Dance Team will travel to Orlando, Fla. March 2-5, 2012 to compete in the National Dance Alliance (NDA) National Championship.

On Friday, December 16, the Dance Team received the exciting news that they had qualified and have been invited to participate in this prestigious competition. The team will perform two dances in the competition: “ET”, a hip hop number, and “Tea Party”, a character dance.

“This is more than an honor,” said Coach Gennifer Difilippo.  “It is an acknowledgement of our six years of hard work and dedication to the growth and development of this program by all involved. We are proud to represent West Potomac and the local community at NDA Nationals.”

The West Potomac Dance Team has grown from a team of 11 dancers just six years ago when Difilippo became coach, to 25 dancers on the Varsity Team and another 14 on the JV team, which was formed for the first time this year. In October, the team won Grand Champions at the Kings Dominion Dance & Cheer Competition.  

Dilfilippo credits much of the team’s success to “the community-wide commitment made by coaches, students, parents, and area businesses, who have all worked together to support these student-athletes and help them achieve their dreams.”
 
The team is already hard at work raising funds and rehearsing for this competition. In addition to regular rehearsals and halftime performances at West Potomac basketball games, the team has added practices, including some on weekends, in order to prepare. Fundraisers include a Junior Dance Team fundraiser, raffle baskets, restaurant fundraisers and community and business sponsorships.  

The team encourages the community to get involved and support their effort. Businesses that contribute to the “Road to Nationals” journey, will be recognized on fundraising t-shirts that will advertise sponsors.
