When you head to the Shoppers in Mount Vernon between today and July 9, you'll see brown paper grocery bags with UCM's logo on them for sale at each register. Each is filled with canned goods and costs $5, but the value of the goods is about $0.80 more than that. Simply purchase the bag and leave it at the store — UCM will pick up your donations later in the week.

"We do a food drive for Capital Area Food Bank every year as a part of our corporate giving program--it's a tremendous success and we love doing it. So it seemed like a shame to me that our store is just a mile from UCM's food pantry and we weren't doing anything to support it. Holding a store food drive seemed like the best way to help out," says Johnnie Smith, Assistant Manager of Shoppers Food and Pharmacy.

Smith says the store is hoping to sell at least 50 bags per week to donate to UCM.
