Alexandria Potomac Little League to Commemorate Opening Day
The Alexandria Potomac Little League will open its eighth spring season by dedicating renovated fields and new dugouts on April 14 at 11 a.m. at Bucknell Elementary School.
The Opening Day festivities will be marked with a dedication of the two new dugouts which are the Eagle Scout project of West Potomac Varsity baseball and APLL player Ryan Aitken. The project was funded through the generous donations of many local families and businesses and was built with the volunteer support of local Boy Scout Troop 996 as well as the parents and players of the APLL community. Prior to the Eagle Scout project, players were exposed to the elements in cramped, dilapidated dugouts.
“I wanted to build these two new dugouts to change the conditions of the field so that current and future players could enjoy a safer and more comfortable facility to learn and play baseball,” said Ryan Aitken in a press release.
This year’s Opening Day will also feature the Bobcat Chorus from Belle View Elementary School singing the National Anthem and “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” Representatives from the Potomac Nationals will also be on hand to celebrate, including the mascot, "Uncle Slam."
More than 300 players from all levels will play this season.
